Linking to Govt.nz on your home page

We've had a number of questions about linking to Govt.nz from your website, so thought we'd give you the low down, as it stands.

Our recommendations are to:

Why?

The reasons for this latest advice are that:

  • The All-of-Government newzealand.govt.nz logo (JPG, 75kB) is being retired because the website it names no longer exists.
  • Links to newzealand.govt.nz now redirect to the new Govt.nz website.
  • The next version of the Web Usability Standard will require that home pages link to www.govt.nz instead of newzealand.govt.nz.
  • The next version of the All-of-Government Brand Policy and Guidelines will require the use of the “New Zealand Government” and "Te Kāwanatanga o Aotearoa" logos and linking to www.govt.nz.

Until the Web Usability Standard and All-of-Government Brand Policy and Guidelines are updated, we suggest you go with our recommendations.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

I do love the font of this logo. Is there a full font in this style or was it bespoked up for the logo?

Can you please provide different format like svg or png format.

    Hi there!

You recommend using only the “New Zealand Government” logo, as shown at https://www.ssc.govt.nz/sites/all/files/All-of-govt_NZ_Gov.jpg, and say that the next version of the brand policy and guidelines will require that logo.

The Technical Style Guide has two logo images that don’t show web addresses. One is “New Zealand Government”. The other is “Kāwanatanga o Aotearoa”. We use the Kāwanatanga logo for about half our websites, and rather like it.

Does your advice here mean that as we review our sites we should move back to the English version, or will the Māori version still be acceptable?

(I’m assuming this is an oversight!)

    Hi Liz
Thanks for your question. I’ve emailed the State Services Commission to ask them as administration of the All-of-Government Brand is their responsibility. I have copied you into the email so hopefully we’ll hear back soon.
    Cheers

    Hi Rob,
Thanks for your question. I’ve emailed the State Services Commission (and copied you in) to see if they can provide the logos in either of these formats for you. Watch this space.
    Cheers

    Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for your comment. Apologies, that was an oversight. I’ve updated the blog to include both the ‘New Zealand Government’ and ‘Te Kāwanatanga o Aotearoa’ logos, with a link to both logos. Thanks for pointing this out and please do continue to keep using the Māori version on your websites.
    Thanks 🙂
