Accessibility workshop in Christchurch

The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) and Christchurch City Council are holding a free workshop on web accessibility for content authors.

The workshop is open to anyone including government employees, private sector vendors and the general public.

1. Web accessibility for content authors

Facilitator: Katherine Barcham, Content Designer, DIA

Learn about common web content accessibility problems, whom they affect and how, and get some practical ways to identify and fix them. Everyone who uses your site will benefit from your new insights.

You’ll learn, among other things, about:

  • semantic structure
  • link text
  • image text alternatives
  • video captions and transcripts.

Hands-on

Bring a laptop if you want a chance to apply what you learn. It will save time if you’ve already got Chrome installed with the Web Developer extension.

Hi Kat – We will not be doing any more this year and we have not yet developed our plan for workshops for 2018. In the meantime, there are 2 accessibility guides on the Web Toolkit that might be useful to you: https://webtoolkit.govt.nz/guidance/design-and-development/quick-reference-guides/
