Calling all digital practitioners

Digital.govt.nz

The purpose of Digital.govt.nz is to build an all-of-government, online source of information, tools and services to support digital transformation in the public sector. The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) is in the early stages of mapping the information architecture (IA) for the new Digital.govt.nz website, and we’d love your feedback.

For some background on what we’re doing and why, read the recent Web Toolkit blog post, “Introducing Digital.govt.nz”.

Validating the IA

Across DIA over the past couple of years, we’ve learned a lot of about system, agency and practitioner needs. For details on this, see previous blog posts on research done by different parts of DIA. We have incorporated those insights with analysis of the existing content on the  ICT.govt.nz and the New Zealand WebToolkit.govt.nz  to design a draft IA.

Now we have a structure that needs testing. There will be a few rounds, and we will also be looking to road test some designs and functionality as we progress.

Have your say

We are seeking expressions of interest from people representing our key user groups:

  1. Agency CXOs (including Chief Information, Digital, and Technology Officers)
  2. International partners, media, researchers, industry
  3. Agency line managers
  4. Practitioners, architects, vendors.

If you are interested in helping out with user testing please complete this Digital.govt.nz User Testing Expression of Interest. We will be in touch as we need participants for different stages of the research.

User testing

Over the next week we aim to do some exercises to see how you think we should group and label our topics. Then we will test the outcomes to make sure you can find specific pieces of information in the recommended structure.

We will also be running some face-to-face interviews and workshops to make sure we are covering different users’ needs and that we have a clear understanding of common problems, and common tasks that you are trying to complete.

Setting expectations

A minimum viable product (MVP) will go live this December.

As well as pulling topics together into one clear structure, we are exploring ways of managing content more flexibly. This will involve talking to content owners and stakeholders. We’ll keep you informed of what we’re doing and reasons for design choices.
